I was raised in a Christian home where my father was a Reverend for a traditional Christian church. We didn’t spend much time digging into the Word. I believed in Jesus, and I believed that the Bible was true from a young age, but I didn’t know very much besides the basics and the doctrines of my denomination.
I moved to New York City for musical theater school right after I graduated high school. It was a huge awakening to the ways of the world that I had been very sheltered from. I didn’t really understand how to live a Christian life other than go to church on Sundays, pray before meals and bed, and tell people about Jesus. I quickly found out that I had no idea how to share my faith with an unbelieving world because I didn’t know how to defend my faith. Unbelievers do not accept “I just know it’s true” as a valid answer.  So I started seeking out answers.
The first place the Lord led me was to a group of believers who would meet in Central Park to study the Bible. They took me through a beginner’s course designed to help a new believer understand their beliefs. This study did not teach me apologetics, so I was still unable to defend my faith, but it did help me to grow as a believer and led to me deciding to follow Christ starting with baptism. I was sprinkled as an infant, and the idea that I needed to be baptized as a symbol of my dedication to Christ had never occurred to me. It wasn’t long after my baptism that my husband, Chris, and I decided to start a family and eventually moved away from theater and New York. We have been married for over 25 years and have 5 children, four of whom are now grown, two who are married, and we have a beautiful one-year-old grandson.
Since that moment I have dedicated my life to serving the Lord. I have dug deep into the Word and made it a part of my daily life. I have taught my children to memorize scriptur,e and to quote memorized scripture when they are going through the storms of life or battling fear. I have learned that Christianity is not a blind faith, but that there is layer upon layer of evidence that the Bible is true, that Jesus is God and that he rose from the grave, and that it is possible to Walk in the Spirit every day.
We have been blessed to fellowship and serve at Calvary QC since September of 2014.
